Government Schemes
Central and state government schemes, their objectives and associated ministries.
Eight concepts on flagship schemes as SSC and banking papers ask them: Jan Dhan, Swachh Bharat and PMAY, Ayushman Bharat’s Rs 5 lakh cover, PM-KISAN’s Rs 6,000, Fasal Bima and Ujjwala, Mudra’s Shishu–Kishore–Tarun tiers, skill/entrepreneurship cues, and ministry/launch-year pairs. Prefer structure and the numbers the notes lock — not rotting beneficiary counts.

1PMJDY — banking access suite
Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), launched in 2014, aims at universal access to banking with zero-balance accounts, RuPay debit cards and accident insurance cover. The name cues the sector: Jan Dhan = banking / financial inclusion.
Ministry cue in the formulas: Ministry of Finance. Lock the 2014 launch with Swachh Bharat’s 2014 cluster, not a later health-scheme year.
Figure. Jan Dhan = banking access: zero-balance account, RuPay card, accident cover; Finance ministry; 2014.
| Item | Lock this |
|---|---|
| Full name | Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana |
| Launch year | 2014 |
| Aim | Universal banking access / financial inclusion |
| Features named in notes | Zero-balance accounts, RuPay debit cards, accident insurance cover |
| Ministry (formulas) | Ministry of Finance |
A bank-exam stem describes a 2014 scheme for zero-balance accounts with RuPay cards and accident cover. Which scheme and ministry pair fits?
- Ayushman Bharat — Ministry of Agriculture
- PMJDY — Ministry of Finance; the health-cover scheme is Ayushman Bharat (2018)
- Ujjwala — Ministry of Finance; Jan Dhan is only an LPG scheme
Zero-balance accounts, RuPay and accident cover are PMJDY (2014), Finance ministry in the formulas. Ayushman Bharat is the 2018 health scheme; Ujjwala is LPG.
2Swachh Bharat and PMAY — sanitation and housing
The Swachh Bharat Mission (2014) focuses on sanitation and eliminating open defecation. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) targets 'Housing for All'. Name cues: Swachh → sanitation; Awas → housing.
Formulas pair Swachh Bharat urban with the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs. Keep sanitation and housing as two schemes — do not merge them into one 'urban mission' answer.
Figure. Name cues: Swachh → sanitation; Awas → housing.
| Scheme | Focus | Extra cue |
|---|---|---|
| Swachh Bharat Mission | Sanitation; end open defecation | Launch 2014; urban ministry cue in formulas |
| PMAY | Housing for All | Awas = housing |
A stem about eliminating open defecation is answered with PMAY because both are 2014-era urban flagships. The honest scheme is
- PMAY — housing includes toilets by definition in every key
- Swachh Bharat Mission — sanitation / open defecation; PMAY is Housing for All
- PMJDY — sanitation accounts are opened in Jan Dhan
Open defecation and sanitation point to Swachh Bharat. PMAY is housing; PMJDY is banking access.
3Ayushman Bharat — Rs 5 lakh per family per year
Ayushman Bharat — Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), launched in 2018, provides health cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization. Formulas call it the world’s largest government-funded health assurance scheme.
The single most-tested fact is the Rs 5 lakh figure. Attach that number to PM-JAY; do not migrate it onto PM-KISAN’s income support.
Figure. Health cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary/tertiary hospital care.
| Item | Lock this |
|---|---|
| Launch year | 2018 |
| Cover | Rs 5 lakh per family per year |
| Care level named | Secondary and tertiary hospitalization |
| Tag in formulas | World’s largest government-funded health assurance scheme |
Under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, what annual health cover is provided per family, and which scheme’s number is the usual swap?
- Rs 1 lakh — swap with Mudra Shishu
- Rs 5 lakh per family per year — do not swap with PM-KISAN’s Rs 6,000 income support
- Rs 10 lakh — the formulas’ only health figure
PM-JAY locks Rs 5 lakh per family per year. PM-KISAN’s Rs 6,000 is farmer income support, not health cover. Rs 1 lakh and Rs 10 lakh are distractor magnitudes.
4PM-KISAN — Rs 6,000 in three installments
PM-KISAN provides income support to eligible farmer families: Rs 6,000 per year, paid in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 directly into bank accounts. Ministry cue: Ministry of Agriculture (with PMFBY).
Remember the 6000/2000 split. Launch year in the formulas’ cluster: 2019. Do not call the Rs 6,000 a health cover.
Figure. Rs 6,000 per year as three equal Rs 2,000 installments into bank accounts.
| Item | Lock this |
|---|---|
| Annual support | Rs 6,000 per eligible farmer family |
| Installments | Three equal installments of Rs 2,000 |
| Mode | Direct benefit into bank accounts |
| Ministry (formulas) | Ministry of Agriculture |
| Launch year (formulas) | 2019 |
PM-KISAN pays Rs 6,000 per year. How is that usually broken up in exam keys, and which scheme’s Rs 5 lakh must not be merged in?
- Twelve installments of Rs 500; merge with Ayushman Bharat’s cover
- Three installments of Rs 2,000; Ayushman Bharat’s Rs 5 lakh is health cover, not PM-KISAN
- One lump sum of Rs 6,000 only; no installment structure exists
Formulas: Rs 6,000 in three equal installments of Rs 2,000. Ayushman Bharat’s Rs 5 lakh is a different scheme’s health cover.
5Fasal Bima and Ujjwala — crop insurance and LPG
Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) offers crop insurance. Ujjwala Yojana provides LPG connections to poor households. Name cues: Fasal Bima = crop insurance; Ujjwala = LPG.
Ministry cues in the formulas: PMFBY with Agriculture; Ujjwala with Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. Launch cluster: Ujjwala with Mudra in 2015–2016.
Figure. Fasal Bima = crop insurance (Agriculture); Ujjwala = LPG (Petroleum & Natural Gas).
| Scheme | Sector | Ministry cue (formulas) |
|---|---|---|
| PMFBY | Crop insurance | Ministry of Agriculture |
| Ujjwala Yojana | LPG connections to poor households | Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas |
A household-LPG connection stem is matched to PMFBY because both are 'welfare for the poor'. The honest scheme is
- PMFBY — crop insurance includes free LPG in the notes
- Ujjwala Yojana — LPG connections; PMFBY is crop insurance under Agriculture
- PMJDY — LPG is delivered through RuPay cards
Ujjwala is LPG. PMFBY is crop insurance. PMJDY is banking access. 'Welfare' is not a scheme identifier.
6Mudra — Shishu, Kishore, Tarun
Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana provides collateral-free loans to micro enterprises in three categories: Shishu (up to Rs 50,000), Kishore (Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh), and Tarun (Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh).
Category names follow a growth theme — child to youth to adult — matching rising loan limits. Increasing order is always Shishu < Kishore < Tarun.
Figure. Growth tiers by ceiling: Shishu ≤50k, Kishore ≤5L, Tarun ≤10L — bar heights are the ceilings.
| Category | Loan amount |
|---|---|
| Shishu | Up to Rs 50,000 |
| Kishore | Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh |
| Tarun | Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh |
Arrange Mudra categories in increasing order of loan amount, and pick the band for a Rs 3 lakh working-capital need.
- Tarun < Kishore < Shishu; Rs 3 lakh is Shishu
- Shishu < Kishore < Tarun; Rs 3 lakh falls in Kishore (Rs 50,000 to Rs 5 lakh)
- Shishu < Tarun < Kishore; Rs 3 lakh falls in Tarun only
Order is Shishu < Kishore < Tarun. Rs 3 lakh sits inside Kishore’s Rs 50,000–Rs 5 lakh band. Tarun starts at Rs 5 lakh.
7Skill India / PMKVY beside Mudra
Skill India / PMKVY focuses on skill development of youth. Mudra sits beside it in the notes as the collateral-free micro-enterprise loan pathway. One is skills; the other is credit — do not answer a skill-training stem with Mudra’s Shishu limit.
Launch cluster in formulas: Ujjwala and Mudra in 2015–2016. Keep Skill India/PMKVY as the skill-development cue from the notes without inventing ministry rows the source does not state.
Figure. Skills versus credit: PMKVY trains; Mudra lends. Do not answer a training stem with Shishu.
| Scheme / mission | Focus |
|---|---|
| Skill India / PMKVY | Skill development of youth |
| Mudra Yojana | Collateral-free loans to micro enterprises |
A stem about training youth in job-ready skills is answered with Mudra Tarun because larger loans fund training centres. The honest cue is
- Mudra Tarun — all skill policy is a loan category
- Skill India / PMKVY — skill development; Mudra is collateral-free micro-enterprise credit
- PM-KISAN — farmer income is classified as skill pay
Skill India / PMKVY is the skill-development cue. Mudra is credit for micro enterprises. PM-KISAN is farmer income support.
8Ministry pairs and launch-year clusters
Formulas lock ministry pairs: PMJDY → Finance; Swachh Bharat urban → Housing & Urban Affairs; PM-KISAN and PMFBY → Agriculture; Ujjwala → Petroleum & Natural Gas. Launch-year clusters: PMJDY and Swachh Bharat (2014); Ujjwala and Mudra (2015–2016); Ayushman Bharat (2018); PM-KISAN (2019).
Revise clusters, not a fake 'current beneficiary' count. If a stem names Agriculture, the scheme is PM-KISAN or PMFBY in this sheet — not Ujjwala.
Figure. Launch-year clusters above; ministry cues below — revise the sheet, not an org chart of every ministry.
| Scheme | Ministry / year cue |
|---|---|
| PMJDY | Finance; 2014 |
| Swachh Bharat (urban) | Housing & Urban Affairs; 2014 |
| Ujjwala | Petroleum & Natural Gas; 2015–2016 cluster with Mudra |
| Mudra | 2015–2016 cluster with Ujjwala |
| Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) | 2018 |
| PM-KISAN | Agriculture; 2019 |
| PMFBY | Agriculture |
A stem pairs Ujjwala with the Ministry of Agriculture because farmers also use LPG. The accurate ministry cue in this topic is
- Ministry of Agriculture for Ujjwala; Petroleum only handles PMFBY
- Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas for Ujjwala; Agriculture is the PM-KISAN/PMFBY cue
- Ministry of Finance for Ujjwala; Petroleum has no scheme pairing here
Formulas pair Ujjwala with Petroleum & Natural Gas. Agriculture covers PM-KISAN and PMFBY. Finance is the PMJDY cue.

Exam traps & shortcuts
- Match scheme to sector: 'Jan Dhan = banking, Fasal Bima = crop insurance, Ujjwala = LPG, Awas = housing' - the name hints at the sector.
- Ayushman Bharat = 'Rs 5 lakh health cover' - the number 5 lakh is the single most-tested fact.
- Mudra loan tiers 'Shishu-Kishore-Tarun' go small to large (child to youth to adult) matching increasing loan sizes.
- PM-KISAN pays 'Rs 6,000 in 3 installments of Rs 2,000' - remember the 6000/2000 split.
